Juhannus / Midsummer

Heips! Tähän väliin heitän lyhyen postauksen juhannuksestani, jota yritin ensin ahtaa asupostauksen yhteyteen, mutta sain harmaita hiuksia postauksen sekavuudesta. Joten tehdään nyt tälle ihan erillinen postaus!

Hello! I decided to do a little post about my Midsummer, which we celebrated last week here in Finland!

I have never really understood why Midsummer seems to be such a big thing for many Finns. But this Midsummer I was asked to go to the archipelago by boat. I'm not very outdoorsy, but eventually I decided to go. So I, three other girls and a boyfriend of one of my friends went there, as he had to steer the boat.

We didn't use the grill to prepare food, we used it to feel warm. It was so cold!

Sää koetteli alkuun, sillä vettä alkoi sataa kaatamalla sillä sekunnilla kun lähdimme merelle. Onneksi iltaa kohti sää selkeni ja illalla saimme ihastella kaunista auringonlaskua. Maisemat olivat muutenkin oikein kauniit.

The weather was horrible at first: it rained during our boat trip. Luckily the weather got better and in the evening we got the chance to admire a beautiful sunset. The scenery was absolutely beautiful. It was cold though! There were lots of people and the traditional Midsummer pyre was lighten up. We saw all these Midsummer pyres during our way back home and they looked so beautiful.

  1. There is so much beautiful history tied to the midsummer solstice celebration, which stretches back for millennia. It's truly wonderful, in my opinion, that such is still so wildly embraced in Finland and certain other parts of Europe. I really wish the same rang true here in North America, too.
